The name “Soundscape City” comes from Nate’s passion for acoustic ecology. Nate is also an avid environmentalist. At the intersection of environmentalism and sound is a discipline known as acoustic ecology. Fathered by the Canadian R. Murray Schafer, the terms “acoustic ecology” and “soundscape” are becoming more commonplace in both environmental and musical circles.
During 2011 and 2012, Nate embarked upon a sound odyssey to catalog and analyze the sound of Tryon Creek in Southwest Portland. To learn more about this journey, check out his paper and blog on the subject.
